I enjoyed the day in celebrations of our Golden Agers at AFGT. We really should do more through the year to honor the heritage they have given us through their lives. I am sure if we listen closely, we could learn quite a lot from them. It would certainly be entertaining. We thank all of you Golden Agers for what you do for us at AFGT. I am getting to this age faster than the norm. I would love to think that my life somehow had influenced those around me. So this is where I am stating to you...

Thanks, for all you do. A job well done! You are important to me.

The 9 Charismatic Gifts

1 Cor. 12:7 "But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:
12:8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit,
12:9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit,
12:10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.
12:11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills."

These gifts might be well defined as "A temporary, supernatural intervention of natural laws, bestowed by the Holy Spirit where His presence is invited and accommodated." Individually, each gift is defined as follows:

(1) Word of Wisdom -- A Word refers to "a supernaturally imparted fragment," while wisdom, which generally means prudence, decision making.

(2) Word of Knowledge -- A supernaturally inspired utterance of facts.

(3) Faith -- A supernatural impartation of assurance in God.

(4) Gifts of Healings -- Supernaturally ministering health to the sick.

(5) Working of Miracles -- A supernatural intervention of natural laws. The Greek describes it as "works of power" and implies instantaneous results.

(6) Prophecy -- A supernaturally inspired utterance from God. A genuine prophetic utterance never contradicts, neither is equal to, the written Word of God. To forthtell or foretell. To speak from the mind of God. Prophecies are to be judged (1 Cor. 14:29, 1 Thes. 5:20-21).

(7) Discerning of Spirits -- This is a supernatural ability to discern a person's spiritual character and the source of his actions and messages, such as from the Holy Spirit, demon spirits, the human spirit or from the flesh.

(8) Different Kinds of Tongues -- A supernaturally imparted utterance in an unlearned language which is interpreted as a prophecy to the body for their edification. (This is distinguished from "praying" in tongues, which is intended to edify one's own spirit -- 1 Cor. 14:14.) A message in tongues to the body is always to be interpreted (by another gift), and is limited to three within a gathering (1 Cor. 14:27).

(9) Interpretation of Tongues -- This is the supernatural interpretation of a message in tongues into the understandable language of the hearers. It is not a "translation" but an interpretation.

The Application of the 9 Gifts

It should always be remembered that the purpose of all the gifts are to edify the church, and their distribution within the body is completely dependent upon the discretion of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 12:11). The scriptures imply that it's appropriate to seek specific gifts, however, one's motive must be for the building up of the church, not for self gratification. "...since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, let it be for the edification of the church that you seek to excel" (1 Cor. 14:12).

There is a difference between spiritual gifts and fruit. Gifts are the Spirit's manifestation through a vessel, but fruit is the offspring of one's spiritual character. Spirituality cannot be measured by gifts, but by fruit (Gal. 5:22-24). Love is the predominate feature of spirituality (1 Cor. 13:13), without which, charismatic gifts cannot function effectively (1 Cor. 13:1-2). Paul expressed that the church should have a desire for spiritual gifts, but it should follow the foremost pursuit of love. "Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts," (1 Cor. 14:1).

The service where spiritual gifts function may likely take on a less structured, more spontaneous environment that may seem peculiar to some. But in 1 Corinthians 14, the Apostle Paul established specific guidelines for their use so to remove the potential for confusion and disorder. Rather than banishing the operation of these gifts entirely as some churches have done in fear of mayhem, they should seek to understand and implement the prescribed order, as the Apostle admonished: "Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues. Let all things be done decently and in order" (1 Cor. 14:39-40).

The Gifts of the Holy Ghost should never be confused with the Fruits of the Spirit, talents, etc.  God chooses when and where these gifts should be edified through us for the glorification of Him and His church. We are just the willing vessels He uses to empower the Church to reach lost souls and meet the needs of His children.

The apostle Paul admonished members in one of the churches he started, "Do not quench the Spirit" (1 Thessalonians 5:19). He also urged the young evangelist Timothy: ". . . Stir up [rekindle] the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power an

TALENTS

GIFTS

Talents are natural Gifts are supernatural
Talents are inherited from one's parents, ultimately from Adam Gifts are received from God
Talents are received at birth; they are natural endowments. Gifts are received at the time of the new birth
Talents are possessed both by saved people and by unsaved people. There are many unsaved people who are very talented (musical ability, artistic ability, athletic ability, mathematical ability, etc.). Gifts are possessed only by saved people, those who are members of the church which is His Body. An unsaved person might mimic a spiritual gift, but it is counterfeit and limited to self-activity (e.g.-a false prophet, a false teacher, etc.).
A man may be very talented as a TEACHER in the public school system or at a prestigious university. He may be recognized as an outstanding teacher by all of his co-workers. He may be very talented when it comes to communication skills and oratory. He may even win the "Teacher of the Year" Award. This same man, upon believing on the Lord Jesus Christ, may not receive the gift of teaching. Spiritual gifts are determined by God not by any natural talents which a man may possess. If this same man should receive the gift of teaching it is above and beyond and distinct from any natural teaching talent which he had. It is something that he did not have prior to the new birth.
For full effectiveness talents need to be developed. A person who is naturally skilled musically must still learn to play an instrument, often demanding years of practice. Most professional athletes not only have natural talent but they have developed this talent through years of practice and hard work. Gifts need to be exercised and this can only happen as the believer stays spiritually healthy and grows "in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ" (2 Peter 3:18). The proper exercise of spiritual gifts requires spiritual growth and maturity (Ephesians 4:13-16).
Talents possessed by believers ought to be surrendered and consecrated to the Lord and used for His honor and glory. Example: A skilled organist playing for a worship service "as unto the Lord." Gifts are given by God for the outworking of God's LIFE as expressed by the Body of Christ. When the Body is healthy the LIFE of God is manifested and God is glorified (compare 1 Corinthians 14:24-25).
"There is a difference between natural talents and supernatural gifts. Talents come through the genes of natural inheritance; gifts directly by the Lord. Talent comes from the first Adam and, however attractive, is still a part of man's fallen nature. The gift is by the Holy Spirit, as it pleases Him" (Carlton Helgerson, The Local Church, pages 34-35).

Pastors Appreciation 2009

You can read above on my statements last year.  I still say "ditto" for this year's pastors appreciation.

Thanks to all our Pastors.  A full year has come and gone.  Souls have been won into the kingdom.  We should all be rejoicing. As pastor has been stating, we need to seek the face of God in all things.  I am looking forward to seeing what God has in store this coming year as we continue to move forward in God's kingdom.  As I stated above, when the adversity comes that means something great is about to happen. Hold on...let's open our minds and get out of the box of tradition and know God is about to let it happen at AFGT!

Re: gifts of the Spirit

October 3, 2009 by sweetheartnannie

The rule of the talents are true, not used.... or laid aside... you loose them.  A different opinion on the gifts of the spirit.  They are gifts from the third person of the Godhead, The Holy Ghost.  A gift is something that is taken graciously and used for the Kingdom of God.  We can lay the gift aside in many ways.  Such as, sin in our lives of not following the will of God, but God never takes it away.  It's our choice to put it away or not be willing to use our gifts in ministry.  Many of us quench those gifts by not following the will of our Father.  Still it wasn't God who took it away.  It's ourselves.  He told Timothy that he wasn't using the gift that was given to him, and to stir up that gift and quit being afraid.  He didn't take Timothy's gift away because he wasn't using it. He was kindly urging him to go forth and do that which God had called him to do.  God needs his soldiers on the battlefield, He wants us to use the power through that of the Holy Ghost and the Gifts to do just that.

Another thing,  the Holy Spirit of our Father is not the same as the comforter who was sent after the ascension of Jesus.  The third person of the Godhead, is that individual, All new converts should be seeking the Baptism of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues.  The Holy Ghost by which the gifts are given.  If we sin and are out of fellowship with our Savior,  sure that gift has been given up by you. You not only deserted the Father, but gave up all you ever gained in the Kingdom.  So beware, many Godly saints have fell by the wayside on the way to Heaven. Let us ever be mindful of who we serve with reverence and thanksgiving of our salvation.
\
But if you are still under the blood, your gift never leaves you, just pray that the power of the Holy Ghost gives the unction to use that gift as was intended. All the gifts are powerful and they empower the church to win souls, heal the sick, etc.   Don't do as Timothy, lay it aside, stir up that gift that is within you for the Kingdom. All will soon be over as Christ returns for us forever.

I still believe this.  I am praying that God will guide every decision you make with His wisdom and knowledge to reach the vision He has for our church. To also encourage you each day in knowing He has everything in His control.  It's been refreshing to see those new souls saved and new young couples filling our church each Sunday. God is bringing them in to be used for His Kingdom and purpose.

The link listed above is the Plant City Church of God Christmas Show. It is very good. This is the same church that I have listed above. My home church. My family still goes there. My sister and her daughters and family attend. My neice, Melody sings on the Praise Team with choir and her husband runs sound. The church is in a sanctuary that is less than five years old which holds around 1100 people. Please enjoy show. It has a variety of types of music with solos and children.

My church at a very young age, Plant City Church of God

Christmas is around the corner. What are some of the best memories of Christmas? What is Christmas to you?

October 10, 2008 by sweetheartnannie

My fondest memories are of my family being together and celebrating the Birth of our Savior. As a young child I remember my daddy reading the story from the bible on Christmas Eve. I can remember my first solo at church. I was 3 yrs old and I sang two verses of Away In A Manger sitting around a tree. Our church was large and full of children. I loved church even then. I count my blessings of a having Christian family. I remember praying at the altar with my daddy when I was around the same age. I remember the tears and praying to Jesus. Jesus has always been a big part of my life. He has always been with me. Christmas is Jesus! I love Christmas, but it's a very sad time for me anymore. My mother is in a nursing home, my daddy is crazy, and I have lost my baby son. But you know what? I can still celebrate my Savior's Birth because it's all about Him. Only Him, not me. This Christmas I have so much to be thankful for. I have three lovely grandchildren, my son, John and Amanda. I have had a wonderful husband and sweetheart who has shared 43 Christmas' with me. God has been faithful! I honor Him in Celebrating His Son's Birthday! I love you, Jesus!

Please tell your story, poems, prayers, etc on your Christmas's past.

To my dear pastor's wife. Teresa. Sometimes the journey has brought tears, heartaches and unanswered prayers. We sometimes do not understand the whys and wherefores. We just have to trust God and know He has all things under control. You are such a blessing to us. You have worked so hard beside the husband God has chosen to lead us. We know that you put God's desires ahead of yourself and family. We know that you seek God in the "next step" toward the vision from God for us. Sometimes we forget that you are not the superlady with a need to just get alone and rest. We depend on you way too much. I love you. I believe this ooming year will be a year of "first fruits". A year in which God will overwhelm us with blessings too many to count. God has birthed so many ministries in AFGT from your life of committment to Him. The success given to each one has been through your faithfulness in service to Him. God is going to show you just how much He loves and appreciates you for your trust in HIm. Think about this. What if each child you have given one lesson of God's love would come to know Him. What if in adulthood they remembered you and AFGT. What if God brought each one home to AFGT and used them in ministry to do just as you have done, to reach the children. What an awesome thought. Imagine the future of AFGT and the effect of the community. Just from the little ones who come through your ministry in years past, think of the outreach to generations to come just because of you! It will happen! Through your faithfulness to Him! You are truly an awesome woman of God. A woman of faith who is a great example for all our young ladies at AFGT! Just keep on doing just as you have. You WILL reach the goal with success. You go girl!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Pastor Appreciation 2008

Pastor Waylon and Jenny. You have been faithful. Now with the X Static children's ministry we know that young souls will be reached in greater numbers. The seeds of the Word will be planted and nurtured. Soon you will see the fruit of your labors. The greatest reward is seeing those in their youth become the adult christians (the next generation)who are working in the church. So look ahead and have faith that each Sunday your not with us in sanctuary worship, much is being done toward that goal. We love you and appreciate all that you do in ministering to our children.

Re: Pastor Appreciation 2008

Pastor Robbie and Falla we would like to say what an incredible ministry. Just the thought of the magnitude of trying to reach youth in this day and age is beyond us. With the electronic age of gadgets, it makes it even harder to explain the greatest of God to a generation of "right now". Your task is great but know God has equipped you both to be successful in this ministry. May God bless you both in your journey. We love you!

Re: Pastor Appreciation 2008

September 29, 2008 by sweetheartnannie

Pastor Brad and Amber you both are a blessing to AFGT. We are just beginning to really know you both. There is one thing that is certain, God sent you to AFGT! God sent you to be the one to hold up Pastor John and support what God has given him for AFGT. I appreciate all that you do. You committment to God and His word is awesome. We know God has great plans for the both of you. We love you and are here if you need us. Just know that you are a special blessing to us and we pray for you. We stand with you and agree in faith that God is preparing us for great things. Souls!

The compassionate pastor with the heart of God?
That's our Pastor John. He truly has the heart of God for the people in our church and community. When someone is close to God it radiates from within. No one has to tell you it's there, you know in the smile, the light in the eyes, and humbleness of the nature of the man. When a man of God is seeking more of our Lord the spirit will bear the fruit of the soul. So many have come and gone in the body of the church and we seem to grieve for each one. A pastor morns from the losses far more than we do. He knows that God loves each and every one, just as he does. He seeks God for guidance and wisdom of the journey God has put before him. The challenge sometimes seems so large and burden so heavy. For a pastor, God is usually the only resource of strength, peace and encouragement. He looks for the contentment and refreshment from His only source, Christ Jesus. The Word of God is the armour and protection, the knowledge and guidance, and the source and balance of his entire life. He depends on the Word for endurance that gives strength for each day. Our pastor loves the church. God's church. Your church. We are united together as the body of a great church, AFGT. We need to understand that our pastor needs us as never before. The battles are getting greater, the victories harder to overcome. Why? Because God is aligning the forces of the heavens in preparation for the greatest move of God to come to our church and community. We need to get ready for what God has for us. We need to pray even more for our Pastor because the devil seems to always know when God is setting things into place for a great outpouring.
Pastor John, Jimmy and I both know that the journey has been tough at times, but remember God will never fail in the vision He has given you for AFGT. God never changes His mind. Look to Him and know that He is always within arm's reach beside you. He has chosen you,a man of God to lead this body of believers. You, one who has been true and faithful in service to your King.
You, with unfailing faith, trust God in all things concerning His church. You, who always put "God's Church" first in your priorities. You have sacrificed you entire life in service to God and this church. Your family has also done the same. Your life has been put on hold in regards to vacations, personal issues, and family. Many days passed without proper rest. Your sacrifice has been great and not gone without notice to the only one who matters. your Savior. We thank you for loving us and making all the right decisions. We know you seek the face of God in all you do in His Kingdom. May the blessings of God be overflowing to you and yours. We love you and support you in all God has for us at AFGT. Always remember that AFGT is God's vision to you and without YOU where would we be. Let's finish this journey together doing that which He has called us to do, "For Such A Time Is This", right now. "Moving Forward Together"! We're so glad to be back! Your family is a joy to us!

Please pray for Allie Williams. She's in Elementary at Straughn, She broke her arm without a good reason. When examined the doctors discovered a tumor that was full of cyst inside the bone of the arm. The reason for the break of the arm, the tumor. Pray that it will not be the bad word. I do not want to even give credence to the probably. She goes for test in Birmingham. I believe God can heal her arm. They wouldn't do anything to the break until she see the doctors there. Pray for a complete healing for this little girl.I will give updates as they come in. Just please pray.

Pastor Appreciation 2008

September 17, 2008 by sweetheartnannie

The first Sunday of October is Pastor Appreciation day. We have a wonderful man of God as our Pastor. PTL! We also have a great staff. They give us much of their time and also put AFGT on the top of their priority list. I believe that our Pastors are united in prayer and fasting so that together they can know the total plan of God for our church. What a blessing! We need to show how much we love each one by giving of our time and gifts of gratitude of a job well done. Let's make this Sunday the greatest yet, by making it extraordinaire for our staff. You have several weeks to plan your deed of appreciation special.

Please use this blog to post how much you appreciate those who are serving us daily and praying for the wisdom and knowledge to reach lost souls before the coming of our Savior. Let them hear your words of encouragement during this special time. Sunday,October 5th.

Re: Poll: What does Tithing mean to you?

September 15, 2008 by sweetheartnannie

Our blessing will be filled to overflowing when we realize that our tithes are an obligation requested by God. Then we will not be able to contain those blessings when we give from our heart. over and beyond that amount, which is required by us to Him. Don't think so? Just try it. This giving is considered your "First Fruits". It will be pressed down, shaken together and running over. if you give willingly. Our churches require the money necessary to work the ministries needed to reach your families and friends. God laid out this plan for the church to succeed. Let make that happen!!
